Good to know

A few little questions.

A useful place to start, whether you’re planning your first shopping list or taking a look at Pantry Tags.

01 / Getting started

Make it your Pantry.

Can I download Pantry now?

Yes. Try Pantry on iPhone through Apple TestFlight. Install TestFlight, open the invitation and follow Apple’s steps to join the beta. You’ll need iOS 17 or later. This is a testing build; features may change.

Can two of us use the same shopping list?

Pantry supports a shared household list, so either of you can add what you need. You can also use Pantry on your own.

Can I use Pantry on my own?

Absolutely. Keep your shopping, Stock and recipes in one place for yourself, or share a household when it makes sense.

What is free, and what comes with Plus?

Shared lists, Shopping mode, stock, Restock, compatible NFC actions and all four app-icon colours are Free. Plus adds extra in-app themes, recipes and meal ideas, weekly planning and scanning. At launch, Plus will cost £2.49 a month or £25 a year for one household. Paid subscriptions are not live yet.

Does one Plus subscription cover our household?

Yes. At launch, one Plus subscription will cover your household, so you won’t each need to subscribe. Plus will cost £2.49 a month or £25 a year. Paid subscriptions are not live yet.

Which phones can use Pantry?

Pantry is built for iPhone. The current app requires iOS 17 or later. NFC shortcuts also need a compatible iPhone and tag; physical testing is still under way.

How do I share my Home?

Open Household and create an invitation. Share the link, code or QR with your person; they sign in and accept it. You can start on your own and invite someone later.

02 / Keeping track

Start with what helps.

Do I have to track everything in my kitchen?

No. Start with a shopping list and add the stock that’s useful to you. Pantry reflects what you add and update; it doesn’t automatically know what’s been used.

What do the date reminders do?

They help you keep track of dates you’ve entered. They aren’t a food-safety assessment or a replacement for the guidance on the product’s packaging.

Does Pantry know what we’ve used?

Pantry shows the stock you record and update. When you use something, update what’s left; an NFC tag can be a shortcut to a chosen action, but it does not sense quantities.

What shapes the meal ideas?

The meal tools use your recorded stock, saved household equipment and the choices you make for that meal, such as time, servings and dietary preferences. Personal favourites and feedback aren’t automatically everyone else’s preferences. Review recipes, product labels and food condition before cooking.

Does scanning add everything automatically?

Start with a product barcode or receipt, then check the details before adding them. Scanning is part of the current Pantry Plus beta experience. Manual entry is also available.

03 / Pantry Tags

An optional shortcut.

Do I need Pantry Tags?

No. They’re an optional shortcut being developed alongside the app. Pantry can be used without a tag.

Can I order Pantry Tags?

Not yet. The designs shown are examples while we develop and test the physical tags. There are no tag orders or preorders open.

Do tags know when something runs out?

No. Tags don’t sense quantities or know when something has been used. They open an assigned action in Pantry; you keep your Stock record up to date.
